What do you mean, you don’t have a blog?

Are you one of those that do not yet have the capability of blogging to help your business? Then, you are way behind all the others.

I know, I didn’t have one either till a short time ago. My reason for starting one is the help it gives with the search engines. Fortunately JoyceMedia is always busy. I’m also the lucky father of three girls. Last thing I feel like doing is writing up blog content. But, the credibility, audience, and search engine ranking make it a worth while venture.

There were times, in the very recent past, I wish I could make a living writing amusing copy. Like Dave Barry. Even if you’re not a fan, you have to admit it’s a cool way to make a living. But it takes a lot of work and a lot of talent. What would I write about. Who would care?

Both professional and small businesses alike have already taken their marketing into blogs to communicate and keep in touch with their target customers and consumers alike.

You’ve probably heard about it already. How people already have their own blog sites and how they work successfully with their niche market. Reports have also shown how their profits have been boosted because of blogging. These and among other things are enough for you to jump up and start blogging right away.

What you may not know about is that there are also many bloggers who have fallen into some of the pitfalls of blogging.

Why do competitive and successful people fall short when it comes to blogging?

Here’s a few things to lookout for to help avoid the blog pitfalls.

Don’t pretend to be an expert in order to build more credibility when in reality, you’re clueless. Talk about what you know.

Always use a blog category. Don’t confuse people about what topics you’re writing about.

Have a main message. Focus your writing. Give your readers something in your blog they may benefit from.

Make sure your blog reflects you and your business. Make sure your blog is easy to navigate and your readers can move freely from topic to topic.

Your blog should be an extension of your business. Make your customers feel like they are doing business with you in the comfortable ambiance of your office. Your blogs should reflect your business image.

Spend time researching other blogs in the same field. Know what’s being talked about. Learn the strategies that others are using. Know what is happening in the market.

Blogging takes commitment. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Luckily, many people simply buy their content, so once you’ve recognized copy you can move on…. but… the internet is freaking infinite.

Use appropriate content in your blog. Go easy on the advertising and marketing of your own products. You don’t want your readers to get bored, go away and never come back. They have had enough of sales being shoved down thier throat. Minimal is okay, but, don’t get goofy. Spare them the sales talk. Try to find other related topics you can talk about.

One of the sins in blogging is not updating. Minimum one new article per week. Expect to lose the traffic you have been getting with less.

If you are not doing anything with your blog, why have one in the first place?

There’s certainly much more you can read about blogging. There are no lack of experts telling you how to do everything. Take it all with a grain of salt.

be groovy,

Does my designer have to be geographically close to me?

Absolutely not. A good designer can work with you through emails and phone calls. Although I am in Southern New Jersey I have dozens of clients in Connecticut and and scattered all across the US. I even have a few in europe. Needless to say, I’ve only met about 20% of my clients.
That’s why I also include an in depth profile for my clients to read. I understand some people like a face to face, but, it’s not always practical, nor necesary.
So it’s ok to sell yourself a bit. Give them an idea of who your are.
